Our ‘Interview with a Pilot’ series is with Captain Zach Froneman, Pilot at our Perth Airport Jet Base and MCC Instructor from our Revesco Aviation Advanced Flight Training at Jandakot Airport.
Q:
How did you become a pilot?
A:
My aviation career spans both the military and civilian domains, starting as a Military Flight Navigator and advancing through operational, training and management roles in Air Traffic Control (ATC) and commercial aviation, operating as Pilot, Line Training Captain and Chief Pilot.
My aviation foundation was established in 1988 with military training, operationally as a Flight Navigator and administratively as a Commissioned Officer. In 1993, my experience as a Military ATC was added to this balanced foundation. By 1995, this transitioned to civilian ATC and my operational and training skills were further refined. This progression led me to become an ATC Instructor and by 2001, an ATC Rating Examiner.
Aviation has taken me from Africa to Europe and eventually to Australia.
Aviation has taken me from Africa to Europe and eventually to Australia, where I gained experience on several different aircraft types. These include serving as Line Training Captain on the iconic Beechcraft King Air 200 and the Learjet 31/35/36, with numerous opportunities to deliver both ab-initio and advanced training. By 2013, I had built substantial flying hours and commercial aviation experience, leading to my appointment as Chief Pilot, overseeing all aspects of flight department management and operational excellence.
Since joining Revesco Aviation in 2023, my interest in training has reignited and I’ve gained a Flight Instructor Rating (FIR-MCP) with Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) training approval.
Today, I enjoy sharing my experience and the lessons I’ve learned with the next generation of pilots, focusing on safety, efficiency, teamwork, and leadership as an MCC instructor at Revesco Aviation Advanced Flight Training at Jandakot Airport. I also continue to serve as a Line Captain for Revesco Aviation at Perth Airport, primarily supporting the Department of Premier and Cabinet contract.
