Revesco Aviation visits ECU Joondalup Campus
Aviation Guest Lecture Series
Revesco Aviation’s Advanced Flight Training team recently visited Edith Cowan University’s Joondalup Campus as part of the ECU Aviation Guest Lecture Series.
John Goldsmith, Airline Pilot and Simulator Instructor at Revesco Aviation, presented to aeronautical students on Thursday, 14 May 2026, joined by Alyson Lyons from Revesco Aviation’s training and compliance team.
Thank you to Murray Terwey, Aeronautical Discipline Coordinator and Senior Base Pilot at ECU Joondalup, for the invitation to meet and present to students.
The visit provided an opportunity to share real-world insight into the cockpit environment, multi-crew procedures and the skills pilots need when progressing toward larger, more complex aircraft. The students brought plenty of enthusiasm, thoughtful questions and clear ambition for their future in aviation.
Their curiosity and interest gave the Revesco team a strong insight into the talent now coming through the Western Australian aviation sector.

Sharing industry experience with future pilots
John Goldsmith and Alyson Lyons presented to the ECU students, sharing practical insight into multi-crew operations, aviation training and the human factors that support safe, professional flight environments.
John leads Revesco Aviation’s Advanced Flight Training operations and brings 41 years of aviation experience, including 31 years as a Commercial Pilot and 15 years in multi-crew operations. His continued passion for aviation is reflected in his work with aspiring pilots through Revesco’s MCC course and simulator-based training programs.
Alyson Lyons brings specialist aviation training and compliance experience, with a focus on human organisational performance, human factors, non-technical skills, fatigue management, safety management systems and custom course development for aviation and other industries. Alyson is a former Dash 8 Check and Training Captain. She is also a Grade 1 Instructor with Multi-Crew Cooperation Training approvals.
Together, John and Alyson gave students a practical glimpse into the operational, technical and human skills required as pilots progress toward larger and more complex aircraft.
Introducing multi-crew operations
A key focus of the presentation was giving students a clearer understanding of multi-crew operations, including the teamwork, leadership, communication, decision-making and standard operating procedures required when operating as pilot in command or co-pilot.
These are the same skills developed through Revesco Aviation’s CASA-approved Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) course, which is designed to prepare pilots for larger, more complex aircraft and future progression toward an Air Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) and Multi-Crew Type Rating.
Supporting aviation pathways in Western Australia
ECU’s Bachelor of Aviation is Western Australia’s only Aviation degree course. ECU also offers the Bachelor of Technology (Aeronautical), the only course of its kind in Western Australia, covering the science and technology of aviation, aircraft systems and related industry knowledge.
With experienced aviation professionals like Murray Terwey leading and supporting the next generation of pilots, students have access to valuable academic and industry insight as they work toward future aviation careers.
Murray brings 35 years of aviation experience, an Air Transport Pilot Licence, Multi-Engine Aeroplane Instrument Rating, experience across more than 30 aircraft types and almost 9,500 hours of flight time. He has also worked extensively in pilot training and assessment, including as a Check and Training Captain and lecturer at South Metropolitan TAFE’s Aerospace Training Centre at Jandakot Airport.

Building stronger aviation connections
Revesco Aviation values opportunities to connect with students, educators and future pilots across Western Australia. Visits like this help bridge the gap between study and industry, while giving students a practical glimpse into the expectations, standards and opportunities ahead.
It was a pleasure to meet such an enthusiastic group of students and be part of their aviation journey.
